PORTLAND METRO WEEKEND EVENTS PLANNER

CHOCOLATE & WINE FESTIVAL
FRI-SUN – Sample local and international chocolates and wine, and see chocolate presentations at ChocolateFest in the Oregon Convention Center.

JAPANESE NEW YEAR
THURSJapanese New Year Celebration (Shinnenkai) includes New Year’s foods (osechi), sushi, dessert, beer, sake, and traditional music at Montgomery Park.

TRUFFLE FESTIVAL
FRI through January 29 – Hear speakers and enjoy fine dining at the Oregon Truffle Festival, in Portland Jan. 20-22, and Eugene Jan. 26-29. Some events will sell out.

ROSE CITY CLASSIC DOG SHOW
Through January 22 – One of the largest and most popular dog events in the United States. Spanning 5 days, it starts with Individual Breeds and Group (all Terrier breeds, e.g.) with specialty shows on Wednesday. This is followed by 4 days of all-breed dog shows, representing more than 185 individual breeds.

FERTILE GROUND ARTS FESTIVAL
Through January 29 – This city-wide festival is focused on new work in the Arts. It features world-premiere projects, staged readings, developing works and a myriad of other arts events from the Portland creative community.

KIDS MUSIC SHOW & DANCING
SUN – Enjoy this variety show designed for children and their companion parents at the Crystal Ballroom. The afternoon starts with parent networking, with a play area and other hands-on activities for the kids. Then DJ Anjali warms up the kids with dancing. Afterwards, skits and life-size puppets alternate with musical acts.

PORTLAND CHARITY WEDDING DRESS DASH

PORTLAND CENTER STAGE, ASTORIA: PART 1
Through February 12 – A World Premiere! This monumental piece of American history will be told in two parts over the course of two seasons. Part One is about the journey to Astoria and Part Two is about the establishment of Astoria, the first permanent United States settlement on the West Coast.

EMILY DICKINSON PLAY
Through January 29 – Set in her Amherst home, The Belle of Amherst tells the story of reclusive poet Emily Dickinson through her words, poetry, diaries, and letters in Milwaukie. Discount tickets $10.

FILM & MUSIC FESTIVAL
Through February 5 – Reel Music Festival screens new films and timeless classics with a music theme at Portland Art Museum.

FRIDAY DANCE PARTY
Through February 24 – Giant music videos, colorful lights, and pounding music await you at the ’80s Video Dance Attack in Lola’s Room or McMenamins Crystal Ballroom for age 21+. Discount tickets $6 for two people.

MURDER MYSTERY
Through February 8 – Based on a novel by Agatha Christie, Murder on the Nile is a whodunit set on a honeymoon cruise down the Nile River at Lakewood Center for the Arts in Lake Oswego. Discount tickets $16.

URBAN SCAVENGER HUNT
ALL MONTH  Smartphone clues lead you on a fun & engaging walking tour of the city. Clues start you in the heart of downtown at Pioneer Courthouse Square and will take you on a scavenger hunt through the Arts District, on a streetcar ride and among the famous food carts.

SHANROCK’S TRIVIOLOGY
ALL MONTH – Various Portland Locations: Triviology pub quizzes are free to play, last a couple of hours, and are composed of seven short rounds, giving teams instant gratification for their efforts. Team size can range from one to five players, with prizes for everyone on the winning team.

HAUNTED PUB TOUR
All Month – This spine-tingling ghost tour explores Portland’s historic Old Town District, a vibrant area with beautiful 1800’s buildings, cobblestone streets and a wicked past.

PORTLAND ESCAPE ROOMS
All Month THURS-SUNCedar Hills/Beaverton Locations: Real-life room escape games are a type of physical adventure game in which people are locked in a room with other participants and have to use elements of the room to solve a series of puzzles, find clues, and escape the room within a set time limit.

VANCOUVER METRO EVENTS

OPEN SATURDAY AT PEARSON AIRBASE
SAT – Free educational experience, Flight Simulator lab, vertical wind tunnel, a glider-building station, historic airplanes on-site for viewing, collections on display, and educational programs to propel students of all ages.

CLARK COUNTY ANTIQUE & COLLECTIBLE SHOW
SAT-SUN – The show returns with many thousands of outstanding vintage items ranging from period lighting to estate jewelry and everything in between. If you are a treasure hunter, decorator, collector or just like to find pieces from your past, the Clark County Antique & Collectible Show is for you.

VANCOUVER SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
SAT – Audiences will be treated to masterpieces of Baroque, Classical and Romantic eras composed by three of the most significant composers of all time–Bach, Beethoven and Brahms.
